Copyright and licensing Policy
Protecting authors' intellectual property rights while advancing open access, responsible reuse, and the global dissemination of scholarly knowledge.
Our Commitment to Authors' Rights
The Journal of Human Behavior and Societies (JHBS) respects the intellectual property rights of authors and is committed to promoting transparent, ethical, and accessible scholarly communication.
The journal supports an open-access publishing model that enables the dissemination, discovery, and responsible reuse of scholarly research while preserving authors' ownership of their original intellectual contributions.
This policy establishes the principles governing copyright ownership, publication rights, Creative Commons licensing, author self-archiving, third-party content, and reuse of published materials.
Copyright Ownership
Authors retain the copyright to their original scholarly work published in JHBS. Publication in the journal does not require authors to transfer ownership of their copyright to the journal or publisher.
Authors remain responsible for ensuring that they hold the necessary rights to publish and license their submitted material.
Publication and Distribution Rights
By submitting an accepted article for publication, authors grant JHBS the non-exclusive right of first publication and permission to publish, reproduce, distribute, display, and preserve the article in electronic and print formats.
Authors retain their underlying copyright and may exercise their rights in accordance with the applicable publication agreement and open-access license.
Creative Commons Licensing
JHBS adopts the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license for articles published under this policy.
This license permits readers to share, copy, redistribute, adapt, transform, and build upon the published material for lawful purposes, including commercial purposes, provided the license conditions are met.
License details: Creative Commons CC BY 4.0
Attribution Requirements
Users who reproduce, distribute, translate, or adapt published material must provide appropriate credit to the original authors, cite the source publication, include a link to the applicable Creative Commons license, and indicate whether changes have been made.
Attribution must not imply that the authors or journal endorse the reuse or adaptation.
Open-Access Availability
Articles published in JHBS are made freely accessible online without subscription barriers. Readers may access, download, read, and share published research in accordance with the applicable open-access license.
The journal seeks to promote the accessibility and visibility of research concerning human behavior, social institutions, communities, and societies.
Author Self-Archiving Rights
Authors may share and archive their published articles on personal websites, institutional repositories, subject repositories, and academic platforms, subject to the applicable licensing terms.
Authors should include the complete bibliographic citation and a link to the original article published by JHBS whenever possible.
Third-Party Copyrighted Material
Authors must obtain necessary permissions before including third-party material that is not covered by an applicable license, exception, or other lawful basis for reuse.
This includes copyrighted figures, photographs, tables, illustrations, datasets, and substantial extracts from previously published works. Relevant permissions and acknowledgments must be clearly documented.
Commercial Use and Republication
Articles published under CC BY 4.0 may be reused, republished, or incorporated into commercial works without obtaining additional permission from the journal, provided all applicable license conditions are satisfied.
Material excluded from the Creative Commons license, including certain third-party content, may require separate permission from its respective rights holder.
Translations and Adaptations
Translation, adaptation, and modification of published articles are permitted under CC BY 4.0, subject to appropriate attribution and identification of changes.
Users must not misrepresent modified content as the original work or imply endorsement by the journal or original authors.
Author and Publisher Responsibilities
Authors are responsible for the originality of their manuscripts, the accuracy of copyright declarations, and the lawful inclusion of third-party content.
JHBS is responsible for clearly communicating the applicable license, acknowledging authors' rights, and maintaining transparent publication and distribution practices.
Our Commitment to Open Scholarship
The Journal of Human Behavior and Societies is dedicated to protecting authors' intellectual property rights while supporting the widest responsible dissemination of academic research.
Through author-retained copyright, transparent licensing, open-access publication, and appropriate attribution standards, JHBS seeks to strengthen scholarly collaboration, knowledge sharing, and the accessibility of research across the global academic community.
