Publication Ethics

JOURNAL POLICIES

Promoting responsible research, academic integrity, editorial independence, and ethical scholarly publishing.

Our Commitment to Publication Ethics

The Journal of Human Behavior and Societies (JHBS) is committed to maintaining high standards of ethical conduct, transparency, accountability, and academic integrity throughout the scholarly publication process.

The journal's ethical framework is informed by internationally recognized guidance, including the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and relevant recommendations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), where applicable.

JHBS expects authors, reviewers, editors, and publishing personnel to uphold professional standards that protect research participants, maintain the reliability of published findings, and strengthen public trust in academic scholarship.

01

Responsibilities of Authors

Authors must submit original, accurate, and academically significant research. They are responsible for ensuring that manuscripts are free from plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, and inappropriate duplication.

Authors must acknowledge relevant sources, identify all qualifying contributors, disclose conflicts of interest, and ensure that the manuscript is not simultaneously submitted to another journal.

02

Responsibilities of Reviewers

Peer reviewers must maintain the confidentiality of manuscripts and provide fair, objective, constructive, and evidence-based evaluations.

Reviewers must disclose potential conflicts of interest, avoid using unpublished information for personal advantage, and promptly notify the editorial team of suspected plagiarism, research misconduct, or ethical concerns.

03

Responsibilities of Editors

Editors are responsible for maintaining fair, independent, confidential, and impartial editorial decision-making. Manuscripts are evaluated according to scholarly merit, relevance, methodological quality, and ethical compliance.

Editors must manage conflicts of interest, protect confidential information, respond appropriately to ethical complaints, and ensure that publication decisions are not improperly influenced by financial or personal interests.

04

Responsibilities of the Publisher

The publisher supports editorial independence, responsible publication practices, ethical complaint handling, and the preservation of the scholarly record.

Publishing personnel are expected to cooperate with editors in addressing publication concerns, supporting transparency, and maintaining the accessibility and integrity of published research.

05

Originality and Plagiarism

Submitted manuscripts must represent original scholarly work and properly acknowledge the intellectual contributions of others.

Plagiarism, inappropriate paraphrasing, unattributed reproduction of content, and duplicate publication are not acceptable. Manuscripts may be screened using plagiarism detection tools and evaluated by the editorial team when concerns arise.

06

Research Integrity and Data Accuracy

Authors must present research methods, findings, and interpretations accurately and transparently. Data fabrication, falsification, selective manipulation, and deliberate misrepresentation of research results are prohibited.

Authors should retain relevant research records and cooperate with reasonable editorial requests for clarification or verification.

07

Ethical Approval and Informed Consent

Research involving human participants must comply with applicable ethical and institutional requirements. Where necessary, authors must obtain approval from an appropriate research ethics committee or institutional review board.

Informed consent must be obtained when required, and researchers must protect participant privacy, confidentiality, dignity, and personal information.

08

Authorship and Contributions

Authorship should reflect substantial scholarly contributions to the research and manuscript. All listed authors must approve the final submitted version and accept appropriate responsibility for their contributions.

Guest, gift, and ghost authorship are discouraged. Individuals who contribute but do not meet authorship requirements should be acknowledged appropriately.

09

Conflicts of Interest

Authors, reviewers, and editors must disclose financial, professional, institutional, or personal relationships that could influence or appear to influence scholarly judgment.

Relevant conflicts must be appropriately managed to preserve transparency, editorial independence, and the credibility of published research.

10

Confidentiality and Fair Review

Manuscripts under editorial consideration are treated as confidential scholarly documents. Editors and reviewers must not disclose unpublished content without appropriate authorization.

The journal supports objective peer review and seeks to prevent discrimination, favoritism, and inappropriate interference in editorial evaluation.

11

Corrections and Retractions

When significant errors or ethical concerns are identified in published research, JHBS may issue corrections, expressions of concern, or retractions as appropriate.

Such actions are considered according to the nature and seriousness of the issue, available evidence, and recognized publication ethics guidance, including relevant COPE recommendations.

12

Ethical Complaints and Misconduct

Allegations of plagiarism, data manipulation, authorship disputes, undisclosed conflicts, duplicate submission, or other publication misconduct may be referred to the editorial team for assessment.

Complaints should be evaluated fairly, confidentially, and on the basis of available evidence. Authors and other relevant parties should have an appropriate opportunity to respond before significant editorial action is taken.

Our Commitment to Research Integrity

The Journal of Human Behavior and Societies is dedicated to promoting ethical, transparent, independent, and responsible scholarly publishing.

By encouraging originality, protecting research participants, supporting impartial peer review, and addressing publication concerns responsibly, JHBS seeks to contribute credible and meaningful scholarship to the study of human behavior, social relationships, institutions, cultures, and societies.
